Tournament Conditions

1. A competitor must be an amateur as defined by the current Rules of Amateur Status.
2. The Championship shall comprise 72 holes of stroke play, which will be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Ltd and with the Local Rules approved by the Organising Committee.
3. Entry will be limited to 144 competitors. Competitors will play one round over the Jubilee Course on Friday 7 June and one round over the Old Course on Saturday 8 June. The 40 lowest scores over these 36 holes, and any tying for 40th place, will qualify for the final 36 holes to be played over the Old Course on Sunday 9 June 2013. The remainder will be eliminated.
4. In the event of a tie after four rounds, the winner will be decided by a sudden death play-off over holes 1 and 18. Ties for other places will be decided on the lowest score for the last 18 holes or the last 9 or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole. In the event of there still being a tie, the scores on the first 9 or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole will be considered. Subsequently if still tied, a hole-by-hole match play summary should be used. If still tied, the scores for the 3rd round will be treated in the same way until a decision is reached.
5. The Specimen conditions in the Rules of Golf are in effect as regards Driving Clubs and Conforming Golf Balls.
6. Pace of Play conditions will be distributed at Registration.
7. Drugs: A competitor must not knowingly make use of any drug to enhance his performance. A competitor must, if requested, submit to a random drug test. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
8. Transportation: Competitors shall walk at all times during a stipulated round unless permitted to ride by the Organising Committee.
9. Distance measurement devices will not be permitted during tournament play.
10. The Committee reserves the right to disqualify any competitor making a false statement on his entry form or to refuse or reject any entry without giving reason for its decision.
11. The Competitor shall start at the time laid down by the Committee.
12. The Committee reserves the right to fix and/or alter starting times and to alter or amend any of the conditions.
13. The Committee’s decision in all disputes is final.

 

Entry Conditions

1. Entries will only be accepted from male competitors whose handicap, under the current CONGU handicapping scheme or under the scheme adopted in the country from which the competitor enters, is scratch or better.
2. All entries will be submitted using the online entry procedures on the St Andrews Links website at: www.standrews.org.uk/Tournaments/St-Andrews-Links-Trophy
3. Only the first entry per competitor will be accepted - no withdrawal and re-entry will be permitted.
4. The handicap stated on the first entry will be the handicap accepted and no change in handicap will be allowed, even if prior to the closing date.
5. All competitors will be required to submit confirmation of their exact handicap to verify their entry: either enter your CDH number on the entry form (for entrants from Scotland, England or Wales), attach your current certificate at the time of entry (file format: gif/jpg/doc/pdf) or send within 5 days from date of entry. NB: Please note that handicap verification must be received by the closing date at the latest, ie by Thursday 2 May 2013.
6. A competitor’s handicap must be verified by the Secretary of the Golf Club from which he elects to enter. A competitor entering from the USA must seek handicap verification from his home State Association. Other competitors entering from overseas must provide handicap verification from the Secretary of the recognised authority controlling golf in the country from which they elect to enter.
7. NB: A competitor holding both a CONGU and overseas authority handicap must enter the Championship using his CONGU handicap. A player entering with a USGA handicap will be required to have held a USGA handicap index for a continual period of 3 years or more. Exception: A player who has held a USGA handicap index for less than 3 years will be considered for entry if their last held handicap under a recognised handicapping system would gain entry within the entry criteria.
8. The entry fee is £60. Please note that full payment of the entry fee is to be made at the time of online entry. Failure to pay the entry fee at the time of entry may result in your entry not being accepted.
9. Entry fees will not be refunded unless intimation of withdrawal is received before the closing date or in the case of a player's unsuccessful entry.
10. The closing date for entries is Thursday 2 May 2013.
11. If the number of entries exceeds the maximum number of 144 places, a list of reserves will be prepared according to, firstly, exact handicap, secondly, WAGR and thirdly, date and time of entry received. Any vacancies as a result of competitors withdrawing after the closing date will be filled from the list of reserves. This reserve list will be published on the website and regularly updated.
12. All entries will be subject to the approval of the Committee, which reserves the right to accept or refuse or, having accepted, subsequently reject any entry without giving reason for its decision.

 

Entries will be accepted in the following order
(provided they meet the entry criteria)

1. Entries from the leading 30 players from the top 300 players on the World Amateur Golf Rankings as at 29 April 2013.
2. The previous winners of the St Andrews Links Trophy from 2008 - 2012 inc.
3. The 2013 Great Britain and Ireland St Andrews Trophy Squad.
4. Four nominations from each of the Home Golfing Unions – the names of the nominees must be confirmed to the Tournament Office by Wednesday 1 May 2013.
5. Two nominations from selected overseas Unions / Associations – the names of the nominees must be confirmed to the Tournament Office by Wednesday 1 May 2013.
6. Two nominations from the St Andrews Links Trust.
7. All remaining entries up to the maximum number of 144 will be accepted according to, firstly, exact handicap, secondly, WAGR and thirdly, date and time of entry received. The exact handicap at the time of entry will be used for this purpose and no change in handicap will be accepted, even if prior to the closing date.

 

Trophies and Prize money

1. The presentation of Trophies will take place immediately after close of play on Sunday 9 June 2013 at the 1st tee of the Old Course. All prize winners are expected to attend the presentation.
2. All Trophies are retained by the Links Management Committee.
3. The St Andrews Links Trophy will be awarded to the winner.
4. The winner and those finishing second and third will receive commemorative medals.
5. The Ian Forbes Memorial Cup will be awarded for the best aggregate score over the first two days of the Championship and the winner will receive a medal in recognition.
6. Vouchers will be awarded for the leading 10 places to the value of:
   1st - £500
   2nd - £400
   3rd - £350
   4th - £300
   5th - £250
   6th - £225
   7th - £200
   8th - £175
   9th - £150
   10th - £125
