St Andrews Boys' Open 2013

Tournament Conditions

1. The Tournament shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Ltd and in accordance with the Local Rules.
2. Entrants must be amateur as defined by the current Rules of Amateur Status.
3. The Tournament will be held on a scratch basis with handicap match play and handicap stableford consolation competitions open only to non-qualifiers for the scratch match play competition.
4. One qualifying round will be played on the Eden Course. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the same count-back system described in 7 below.
5. The 32 players with the lowest scratch scores will qualify to play for the Merchants’ Cup in scratch match play – see Tournament schedule.
6. The 16 players with the lowest nett scores failing to qualify for the Merchants’ Cup will play for the Murray Mitchell Trophy in handicap match play (full handicap allowance) – see Tournament schedule.
7. In the event of a tie for the qualifying places for 5 and 6 above, these will be decided on the scores returned on the last 9 holes (or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole), followed by the front 9 holes (or 6 or 3 or 2 or 1 hole) of the qualifying round. Any ties for 6 above will be resolved on a nett basis. If still tied, the Committee will determine the qualifier(s) by some other means.
8. Each match in 5 and 6 above will consist of one round. In the event of a halved match, competitors will continue to play until one competitor gains a hole, thus winning the match.
9. A handicap stableford competition for the David Ayton Cup, only open to non-qualifiers for the match play competitions, will be played on the Strathtyrum Course with full handicap allowance. In the event of a tie, the Cup will be awarded on count-back, as in 7 above.
10. Caddies are not permitted during tournament play.
11. Distance measurement devices will be permitted (only measuring distance).
12. The specimen conditions in the Rules of Golf are in effect as regards Driving Clubs and Conforming Golf Balls.
13. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry without assigning a reason.
14. The competitor shall start at the time laid down by the Committee, who reserves the right to fix and / or alter starting times and to alter or amend any of the Conditions.
15. The Committee’s decision in all disputes is final.

 

Entry Conditions

1. Entries will only be considered from players with a handicap of 9.4 or under, as determined by the current CONGU handicapping scheme or equivalent. A reduction in handicap prior to the closing date for entries should be confirmed to the Committee by submitting an up-dated handicap certificate.
2. Entrants must be under 18 years of age on 1 January 2013. The Committee may request the production of a birth certificate of any competitor either before or during the Tournament.
3. Entries are limited to 150 competitors.
4. The current holder of the Merchants’ Cup will gain automatic entry (within age restriction).
5. All entries will be submitted using the online entry procedures on the St Andrews Links website at: www.standrews.org.uk/Tournaments/St-Andrews-Boys--Open NB: Please note that full payment of the entry fee must be made at the time of entry (via the online payment facility for St Andrews Links Golf Shops).
6. Entrants must be an active member of a recognised Golf Club and must submit a handicap obtained from the full men’s medal tees and verified by their Club or Handicap Secretary: either enter your CDH number (for entrants from Scotland, England or Wales), attach your current certificate at the time of online entry (file format: gif/jpg/doc/pdf) or send within 5 days from date of entry. NB: Please note that handicap verification must be received by the closing date at the latest.
7. The closing date for receipt of entries is Thursday 27 June 2013.
8. The entry fee is £30 and includes all competitions, subject to eligibility by players, and practice rounds. A BBQ on Tuesday 6 August will also be included in the entry fee.
9. Entry fees will not be refunded unless intimation of withdrawal is received before the closing date or in the case of a player's unsuccessful entry.
10. If the number of entries exceeds the maximum number of 150 places, the entries will be decided firstly, by exact handicap and, secondly, by date and time of entry received. Any vacancies as a result of competitors withdrawing after the closing date will be filled from the list of reserves. This reserve list will be published on the website and regularly updated.
11. An up-to-date handicap certificate (or CDH number, if known) must be shown to the Committee at registration. The handicap declared at registration will be the handicap used throughout the week.

 

Tournament Schedule

Monday 5 August
Official Practice Day - a courtesy practice round is available for competitors only on the Eden Course. Practice rounds may be booked after the closing date.

Tuesday 6 August
Qualifying Round - all competitors will play one qualifying round on the Eden Course.
BBQ and Prize-giving - all competitors are invited to attend a courtesy BBQ at the Eden Clubhouse followed by presentation of the winning Medal for the best scratch score.
